I mean driving.

Comment here on my characterization, any confusing IC/OOC behavior on my part - hell, if you've got a complaint over neglecting our CR or dropping a thread way back when, note me here and we can arrange something.

I would really appreciate crit from anyone that knows his canon, little of a vocal fandom as there is - it would be super duper cool and I'd love you forever. Anything from how I portray Ryu, to how I interpret the plot and setting - whatever commentary you can come up with, I'm all ears.

The best word to describe Ryu is 'diligent.' He has a strong moral code and won't hesitate to defend someone he thinks is in need - but he's also not very ambitious and can be too patient with people for his own good.

cantgive100percent: (Persona!)
Ryu will start in Strings with 5% to his in-game D-Counter. If/when he canon updates, it will raise in accordance to the place he reaches in canon, and in intervals of 5, because 5 is the coolest number and is nice and solid.

The D-Counter is going to be a guideline for general physical health, too - even early in the game, Ryu will raise the thought that shit, he might be dying from this. So if that rises, I should throw in little cues as to the deterioration of his health over time.

The 'slow death to eventually become a dragon's new suit' part of the D-Counter is frozen in Strings, but rising due to canon updates is a given.

As for the D-Counter concerning Odjn the Persona! It'll start at 00.00%, and go up as he - predictably - bypasses using the Persona to use his D-Link powers. This Counter raising means an increase in the strife between himself and Odjn Descendant, and can have ~*~fun effects~*~!

Current Persona D-Counter: 02.00%, mostly accumulated by using D-Dash at risky moments during his previous time at Strings.

0.00%: Persona operates as normal.
0.01-9.99%: No lasting effect detected, and no direct 'reprimanding' - but the Persona will begin delaying appearances when called by a few long seconds or so, as if reluctant to 'answer the bell.' The delay will increase at higher stages - at a base variance of 1-3 seconds, the entire number range will go up by 1 second per stage.
10-19.99%: Buffs will occasionally fail to effect the Persona for no apparent reason. The percentage chance of this happening will go up as the Persona reaches further stages in the counter - it starts at a 5% chance, and goes up in increments of 5% from there.
20-29.99%:
30-39.99%:
40-49.99%:
50-59.99%:
60-69.99%:
70-79.99%:
80-89.99%:
90-99.99%:
100% and up: The Persona is now impossible to summon without it going wildly out of control. Use of the D-Link even beyond this point will result in it becoming outright impossible to summon at all, and if he persists, a semi-counter may have to be drawn up to represent it effecting his ability to use even other Personas.

And, because RP is fluid, of course I'll play around with Odjn Descendant fucking up in other ways as is apparent for dramatic effect.

cantgive100percent: (seethed)

Odjn is what is known as a D-Construct, a genetically engineered ('Genic') dragon based from True Dragons - creatures the game gives little to no information on, other than that they were part of the destruction that forced civilization to go underground. That's where the Genic Dragons were created - the ones which we know of being Odjn, Dva, and Chetyre. Odjn is also known as the 'Destroyer of a Thousand Years,' because titles are cool.

The Genic Dragons are all deceased by the time the game starts, but they live on as spirits - driven on by their programmed directive of returning to the sky. It's unclear how exactly this works, but both Odjn and Chetyre can choose people to take possession of, granting fabulous powers at a horrible detriment to the body of the person channeling them. Both are also able to rescind these connections at will. This is how the Genic Dragons manage to sustain themselves, despite the death of their bodies - by persisting through humanity. The hosts they choose are called, well, 'Chosen,' and it's government policy to systematically eradicate any that appear due to the vast potential for societal upset they impose.

Despite being long dead, Odjn and Chetyre are locked into a conflict with one another over how to reach the sky - Odjn desires humanity to once again live upon the surface, and Chetyre wishes to simply get there and rule over it because fuck y'all you've already had your chance.

Dva is a bonus boss so the plot sadly goes kaput on that point.

In the setting of Dragon Quarter, Odjn is not a well-known figure - but he's one that has shaped the entire society of Sheldar all the same. The first human he chose to bond with, Elyon (also known as 'Origin' because titles are still cool) became the effective ruler of the world as a result, and it's he who instituted the D-Ratio system, based on the likelihood for a given human to be able to handle the power of a dragon.

Odjn is, as you might infer, much more benevolent than Chetyre - though his only way of acting is through granting destructive power, his ultimate goal is for it to be used for the good of mankind. His attitude toward Ryu is actually rather fond, maybe even a bit paternal.

Now let's talk about Odjn as a Persona.

Due to Ryu's early canon point, he's not starting off with a good understanding of what Odjn is - he sees the destructive aspect of Odjn, he feels the fear of his body becoming something Other, and knows whatever that is, it's the source of his power. That's why he'll start with Odjn Descendant, which is exemplified by terrifying amounts of raw strength, and by taking the form of the dead body of Odjn that Ryu encounters early in the game:

It's not quite that big as a Persona, though.

Odjn Ascendant:
1 (hey look it kinda looks like he's summoning him)
cantgive100percent: (Default)
Odjn Descendant - looks like Odjn's destroyed body
weak to light & mind, resists phys and fire

skills - focus on ridiculous amounts of phys - no/huge limit on mind skills, since trusting in power over the intelligent tactics he's been trained in is basically what you do when you invoke Odjn ingame. can't decide whether to downplay fire spells in favor of McPHYSALOT or what. no outright healing skills.

"The Divine Will supercedes intellect -"  well that's pretty blatant.

inspired by a fear of the power and loss of humanity, a limited understanding of what Odjn is and isn't. essentially, temperance in reverse and ignoring/purposefully subverting the ties to god presented in the game iconography. representative of his early canon point/place within darkness - odjn descendant is weak to light, physically overwhelming and unbalanced, and leaves him weak mentally.

Odjn Ascendant - looks like the normal art of odjn

ultimate persona. hey guess what it's temperance upright. weakness to mind is gone, skills are more balanced/helpful to others i would think. really wince-worthy play on the whole MUST REACH THE SKY thing Odjn has going on.
